PAST AND PRESENT
Holmes Travel was established in 1972 and is based at Martlesham Heath in Suffolk. Our relationship with Sotogrande began in 1976 after an exploratory visit by Ian Bateman, founder of Holmes Travel, left him so impressed by the estate’s potential that he immediately decided to invest. A few years later, in 1978, Ian’s vision turned into Holmes Property, Sotogrande’s longest established estate agency and Sotogrande remains his home to this day. Meanwhile Holmes Travel in the UK, under John Ferguson, supplied flights, car hire, hotels and rentals for both property owners and visitors. Many of those customers remain with us today, although now they’re as likely to be booking flights to New York, taking the family skiing or going on safari as booking a flight to Gibraltar. The ongoing relationship between Holmes Travel and Holmes Property continues to give us a unique insight and intimate knowledge of Sotogrande. We have watched the resort develop and mature over many years and can give expert advice to those looking to either buy or rent property.
